The main word of this project is “connection”. Connection can be both a technical term and a romantic, almost ethereal term. In Einsteins Theory of Quantum Entanglement two particles are bonded together, and their states change together even at the ends of a universe. This project aims to do just that. Stay connected even at the edges of the universe.
The main idea of the project was born when for a time I had to live a 1000 kilometers away from my partner. It is then that I realized that it happens to many people, and that it requires a good communication strategy on many levels. Long distance relationships don’t share the same luxuries that ordinary couples have, like knowing what each other is eating for breakfast, or when the other wakes up.
„Nous” (“us” in French) is a device trying to better connect people in long distance relationships. Nous is meant to become a part of the couple’s rituals, seamlessly becoming an element of their everyday lives. The devices work in pairs and communicate through Wi-Fi, no matter the distance. The light fades away, when the lover goes to sleep, and in the morning the alarm can play a special message recorded by your loved one.
This project is an attempt to add to the tools that long distance relationships have, adding real time information exchange, of the most ethereal thing, “are you already asleep?” and “good morning, have a great day and a happy anniversary!”.
